-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Summary Referee 1: Investigation on gender-bias in e-learning systems. A list of suggestions on how to reflect the gender-bias in adaptive e-learning systems is provided. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Summary Referee 2: This is mainly a review of the types of issues that appear to be important in designing interfaces for many women who are readilt intimidated by computer systems. There is also an outline of a model based upon reports of studies of users. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Summary Referee 3: In trying to design systems that are sensitive to the needs of different groups such as different genders, different racial and ethnic groups, etc. there is a dilemma -- how can you make the system behave in a way appropriate for each group without forcing people into stereotypes? The authors propose that the group characteristics can be taken as weak defaults and coupled with an adaptive mechanism to quickly take account of individual differences. I would have appreciated some more concrete examples of how they would envision such interactions to occur.
